On October 12, in Heraklion, Crete, the action entitled “5th Rodantheos Road” is scheduled to take place, co-organized by the Region of Crete and the Beautification, Cultural and Development Association of Agios Ioannis.
Specifically, the race has been established as an annual athletic and cultural event, dedicated to the memory of the Physical Education and Sports teacher, Rodantheos Spetsotaki.
Rodanthi Spetsotaki served education with dedication, as a teacher and principal at the 2nd High School of Heraklion, while at the same time contributing significantly to the progress of the Physical Education sector. She was distinguished for her ethos and contribution to her students and colleagues, but also for her active presence for many years on the board of directors of the Physical Education Graduates Association of Heraklion Prefecture, where she served as president, secretary and vice president. A particularly important work of hers was the uninterrupted publication of the Association’s scientific journal for two decades.
The race, which bears her name, is held around the suburb of Agios Ioannis, with the active participation of the school units in the area. She had served in several of them, leaving her mark as a teacher and principal. The action is not limited only to the memory of Spetsotakis, but is an opportunity to highlight sports as part of local cultural life, while emphasizing the participation of citizens in activities that promote physical exercise and social cohesion.
As pointed out by the organizers, the goal is to honor the contribution of Rodanthe Spetsotakis, to promote her work as an example to be followed by younger generations and to strengthen the value of sports in the everyday life of the local community.
The “Rodantheios dromos” has evolved into a point of reference for the local community, combining sports with education and social contribution. With the massive participation of citizens of all ages, the event takes on the character of a celebration, where memory, exercise and collectivity are united in an experience that highlights the value of people who left an indelible mark on the society of Heraklion.
