International Film Festival of Larissa-Thessaly

The 17th International Film Festival of Larissa-Thessaly is scheduled to take place from November 18 to 24 in Larissa, co-organized by the Region of Thessaly – Regional Unit of Larissa and AMKE ARTFOOLS.

In particular, the Film Festival brings short and feature films to the city of Larissa every year and is aimed at all cinephiles of all ages, offering direct contact with quality cinema. The purpose of the Festival is to showcase new creators, to give young people a platform for expression, while with its educational character it is expected to contribute substantially to the tourism development of Thessaly.

Within the framework of the Festival, 130 Greek and international films will be screened, a tribute will be given to national cinemas and first-run films will be screened.

In addition, educational workshops in various fields of cinema are planned, as well as screenings of special films aimed at students.

It is noted that in the previous edition, 260 short films and animations from all over the world were submitted. The preliminary committee selected 21 animation films, 7 films related to climate change, 2 films from the Filming in Thessaly competition to be screened, 25 films in the international competition, 34 films in the Greek competition and 4 student films.

A special category was also Larissa Lumina, the Festival within the Festival, the first in Greece with films created using artificial intelligence alone.

It is estimated that in our country, approximately 30 Film Festivals are held, which attract both local and international interest. Some of these Festivals are the Thessaloniki Film Festival, the largest film festival in Greece, which is held every November in Thessaloniki, the Chania Film Festival, which in 2025 will count 13 events, and the Syros International Film Festival, which is held every summer, presenting a wide range of films in various venues on the island. In addition, other Festivals throughout the country are also of interest, such as the Olympia Film Festival for Children and Youth, the Drama Short Film Festival, the French-speaking Film Festival of Greece and the Nafplio Film Festival.
