Minister of Tourism Olga Kefalogianni at the press conference for the organization “Vanda Pharmaceuticals Hellenic Championship ATP 250”
Greece and Athens welcome an international professional tennis tournament of the ATP series, after more than thirty years. The organization “Vanda Pharmaceuticals Hellenic Championship ATP 250” with the participation of top athletes strengthens the position of Athens on the world map of professional tennis and at the same time highlights the potential of Greece in the field of sports tourism.
“The Ministry of Tourism supports initiatives that promote sports tourism and offer new opportunities to get to know Greek destinations,” stressed the Minister of Tourism, Ms. Olga Kefalogianni, at the Press Conference for the organization, which is under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism.
The event was held at the Telekom Center Athens, in the presence of the Tournament Director, Mr. Djordje Djokovic, and the President of the Hellenic Amateur Tennis Federation, Mr. Theodoros Glavas. The Minister emphasized that hosting such an important sporting event has multiple values, as it strengthens the international image of Greece as a destination of experiences, quality and hospitality.
At the same time, it contributes to the diversification and enrichment of the Greek tourism product, strengthening sports tourism as a pillar of sustainable development, with the aim of extending the tourist season and highlighting new destinations throughout the country.
Furthermore, Ms. Kefalogianni stressed that the development of sports tourism is a strategic priority of the Ministry, as it has enormous development potential, creates new jobs and strengthens the local economy, both in urban centers and in the region.
“The Hellenic Championship ATP 250 has a special place in our effort for qualitative and sustainable development of tourism in our country. I am certain that the tournament will be a unique experience for all participants and visitors, and another step towards establishing Greece as a destination for top-level sports events,” the Minister concluded.
