Dinosaur Environmental Park in Greece

In the municipal forest “Kouri” in Almyros, Magnesia, a thematic experience is being prepared that aims to become a highlight of this year’s Christmas season. The Region of Thessaly, as part of its initiatives for cultural awareness, environmental education, and sustainable tourism development, is moving forward with the creation of a Dinosaur Environmental Park, a festive installation hosting the activity “A Living Experience from the World That Disappeared.”

The park, which will operate daily throughout the holiday season with free admission, leverages the natural beauty of the forest to bring to life a world lost millions of years ago. The choice of dinosaurs is intentional, as the Region seeks to connect the Earth’s prehistory with modern environmental thinking, presenting a unified narrative that combines science, culture, and experiential entertainment.

In this thematic park, described as the most “adventurous” of the season, visitors will encounter three-dimensional, realistic, and robotic dinosaur exhibits in life size, complete with movement and sound. The setting will be enhanced by special lighting, vibrations, installations simulating natural environments, and a Christmas-themed soundscape, transforming the forest path into a cinematic experience. At the same time, informational panels and educational material will provide knowledge about the geological and natural evolution of the planet, while young visitors will have the opportunity to participate in interactive workshops.

The initiative, which combines an educational character with a festive atmosphere, aims to become a new, accessible attraction for both residents and visitors. Almyros, located at a strategic point in Thessaly and near major roadways, already serves as a natural “gateway” for excursions in the wider region. The “Kouri” forest, easily accessible and with ample parking, is of supra-local significance, having hosted a summer music festival with nationwide appeal for years.

According to the plan, the Dinosaur Environmental Park aims to enhance environmental awareness, cultivate scientific thinking, and offer a high-quality form of entertainment for all ages. The initiative is expected to contribute to the local economy and the cultural identity of the area, while also serving as an opportunity for collective experiences during a period traditionally characterized by increased visitor traffic and demand for creative, family-oriented activities.

With the holiday season consistently being one of the most dynamic periods for thematic events, Thessaly is testing a new model that connects environment, science, culture, and entertainment, in a setting where dinosaurs return briefly—not from the depths of time, but within the natural landscape of a forest that already holds a strong cultural identity.
