Athens ranks 17th among 45 popular global cities with the best value for money ratio, according to recommendations that online travel planner Trivago has suggested to its users for 2016.
The capital of Greece scored 78.36 popularity points, while Belgrade topped the list with 94.91 points.
100 lesser-known destinations
Trivago also compiled another list with 100 lesser-known destinations that also recommends to tourists. That list includes the town of Nafplio, in the Peloponnese, which ranked 63rd with 93.56 popularity points with Larnaca in Cyprus a few places below with a popularity of 92,99 points.
At the top of that chart is the Chinese county of Fenghuang, with 98.01 popularity points followed by the city Mostar, in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Bulgarian Veliko Tarnovo. The top-5 list is concluded with Serbian Novi Sad and a Chinese city, Pingyao, with a popularity of 96,83 points.
