Millennials are turning to travel agents

Millennials with families are finding out that travel agents are the way to go on a family holiday, because when something happens on a trip—like your hotel room isn’t right—you have someone to call to fix the problem, especially when the company is being uncooperative, travelpulse.com reports.

You can’t VIP yourself,” Jack Ezon, president of NYC’s Ovation Travel, one of the city’s largest, joked with Eileen Ogintz of Taking the Kids. “But it sure is nice to be treated like a VIP when you arrive or to have someone there to smooth over the rough spots. We can negotiate a lot of exceptions on behalf of our clients.”

Millennial parents are discovering this, and travel agents are seeing this firsthand as a new generation of parents turn to them for booking advice.

Advisers in the Virtuoso network, which specializes in luxury travel, gathered recently in Las Vegas and reported that families in particular are looking for special experiences that they may not be able to arrange on their own…,” Ogintz points out.

There is mounting evidence from around the industry, not just in the luxury sector, that this is the case. Ogintz points out that the 2016 MMGY Global Portrait of the American Traveler survey found more millennials using travel agents as did Ed Tapan, head of industry travel at Google.

There is so much noise out there and so much information, Nancy was able to click through all of that,” Jason Reuben, told Ogintz. Reuben lives in Los Angeles, but called on Connecticut travel adviser Nancy Yale, Cruise and World Travel, to plan his honeymoon in Europe and Morocco.

It wasn’t the extra perks as much as knowing we’d have a stress-free trip,” he said.

As this happens more and more, millennials who are looking for good travel agents may wonder where to turn. Click here for more information on finding and using a travel adviser at Taking the Kids.
