The Thessaloniki Tourism Organization has undertaken an important initiative to strengthen the tourist flow from Ukraine, hosting representatives of the Ukrainian travel agency Itravel, as part of an organized FAM trip. The action is part of the Organization’s strategy to strengthen the presence of Thessaloniki and the wider region in international tourism markets.
The mission of the Ukrainian tourism professionals aimed to explore new possibilities for cooperation with local organizations and professionals, as well as to gain a substantial understanding of the experiences that the city can offer to visitors from Ukraine.
The visitors’ experience
The two-day program included a comprehensive gastronomic and cultural experience. The first day began with the Thessaloniki Food & Gourmet Tour, which highlighted the city’s unique gastronomic identity. From Aristotelous Square and the historic markets of Modiano and Kapani, to an experiential Greek cooking class and the traditional tsipouro in Ladadika, visitors were introduced to authentic flavors and images of Thessaloniki.
On the second day, the program continued with a visit and tasting at the Kechris Winery, where guests got to know the Greek winemaking tradition firsthand. This was followed by a meal at the well-known Greek fast food chain Savvikos and an afternoon tour of the city’s sights, with a strong historical and cultural character.
The Thessaloniki Tourism Organization had the central coordinating role in the implementation of the action, undertaking the planning and editing of the program, supporting contacts with local professionals and producers, as well as promoting the visit through its official communication channels. The initiative highlighted the potential of the region as an attractive destination for the Ukrainian tourist market.
The Thessaloniki Tourism Organization remains firmly committed to targeting markets of strategic importance, strengthening the extroversion of the city and contributing substantially to the tourism development of the wider region.
