The Greek island of Syros managed to join the Polish travel agencies’ list of religious tourism destinations, following the recent visit by four Catholic priests, responsible for outbound tourism pilgrimage centers as well as eight representatives of specialized travel agencies.
This objective was achieved thanks to initiatives undertaken by Syros Hotel Association and Syros Travel agency and supported financially by the South Aegean Government Region.
Preliminary agreements of cooperation
Already, the first preliminary agreements of cooperation with the Polish tour operators have been signed, while in 2016 official cooperation packages, including religious, student and sports and thematic tourism, will follow.
The first group is expected during the Christmas holidays season and, at any rate, not later than March.
Polish visitors showed exceptional interest in long weekends and Catholic rituals celebrated in Syros since 93% of Poles belong to this Christian denomination.
