Lunar samples collected during NASA’s historic Apollo-11 mission to the Moon will be on show at the National Observatory of Athens until December 21, ANA reports.
The samples were donated to Greece and another 134 countries by the U.S. government in 1970, as a diplomatic present from U.S. President Richard Nixon, and have since been stored at the National Archaeological Museum of Athens, along with a Greek flag that traveled to the Moon and back with the same mission.
The exhibits can be visited by the public during daily tours held at 13:30, from Monday to Friday, and regular evening tours held every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday between 19:30 until 20:30 at every half hour. The evening tours include an opportunity to observe the night sky using the Doridis telescope on Pnyx Hill.
General admission is 5 euros (3 euros for discount tickets) while visitors for thematic evenings are required to book in advance at the phone numbers 210 3490160 and 210 3490036 from Monday to Friday, 10:00-15:00.
