In recognition of their support for the creation of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Center for Precision Psychiatry & Mental Health, SNF and its Co-President, Andreas Dracopoulos, were honored by Columbia University’s Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at its annual Crown Awards Gala.
The SNF Center seeks to harness advances in genetics, biology, and other scientific fields that are aligning to offer doctors the possibility of better understanding the underlying causes of severe mental illness. It aims to pioneer new paradigms of mental health research, whose benefits are shared widely, and of mental health treatment, whose methods are individualized and potentially life-changing.
The center, officially launched in 2023, represents a collaboration between the Department of Psychiatry at Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons and Columbia’s Zuckerman Mind Brain Behavior Institute, as well as the Columbia-affiliated New York Genome Center and the New York State Office of Mental Health.
