Karpathos is among the nine destinations in Europe that remain well-kept secrets and are ideal for exploring nature and unique cultures, according to the German magazine GEO.
According to the international travel media, “small villages with white houses and blue roofs characterize Karpathos, which is famous for its authenticity, traditions and refreshing activities. Beautiful beaches and turquoise waters captivate travelers. Apella beach is considered one of the most representative coasts of the Aegean. It is located in a natural bay and is surrounded by a lush pine forest that offers stunning views.”
The GEO list includes Grozny in Croatia, Karpathos, and the city of Mostar in Bosnia. This is followed by the Alto Douro in Portugal, Hel in Poland, the Belgian Dunan, the Finnish Lake Saimaa, the island of Flores, and the Isles of Scilly. “Our concern is the continuous promotion of the destination both abroad and in Greece, highlighting the beaches, the picturesque villages, the holiday, the traditions, the gastronomy, the quality of the tourist services and the special forms of tourism so that on the one hand we help to strengthen the tourist flow in the high season and on the other hand, to create the conditions for expanding the tourist season before and after July and August,” points out the Deputy Mayor for Tourism of the Municipality of Karpathos, Tasos Milios.
It is noted that a program agreement was recently signed by the Regional Governor N. Aegean Region, George Hadjimarkos, and the Mayor of Karpathos, Michalis Fellouzis, to strengthen alternative tourism through the creation of 200 climbing routes distributed throughout the island.
At the same time, the tourism promotion program of the Municipality of Karpathos is underway on multiple levels in view of the new season with publications in international and domestic media, online campaigns, new tourist videos with experiential experiences, and organized exhibition participations.
The recent participation of the Municipality of Karpathos in the international exhibition ITB 2025 at the South Aegean Region pavilion proved to be particularly productive, with meetings with journalists, influencers, travel agencies, and airlines from a number of markets such as Germany, Italy, Scandinavia, Austria, Switzerland, Belgiu,m and China.
