A proposal by Greek telecom company Cosmote to provide free Wi-Fi to visitors of 19 major archaeological sites and museums around the country was given the green light by the Central Archaeological Council (KAS), Greece’s highest advisory body on the country’s cultural heritage.
According to the proposal, Cosmote will undertake the design and studies for the development of the infrastructure network, the installation and construction costs, as well as the supervision of operation and maintenance. The company will prepare an on-site study which will be submitted for approval to the Ministry of Culture.
The project concerns the archaeological site of Akrotiri in Santorini, Delos, the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights in Rhodes, the Byzantine and Christian Museum of Athens, the National Archaeological Museum, the Acropolis, Ancient Olympia, the Archaeological Museum of Iraklion, the Acropolis of Lindos, Knossos, Delphi, Epidaurus, Sounion, the Acropolis of Mycenae, the island of Spinalonga, the Royal Tombs of Aigai in Vergina, Dodona, ancient Corinth and the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki.
