Ted Sarandos appeared at the premiere film festival of North America today, the Sundance Film Festival, to discuss the role of Netflix and filmmakers in the future of the US.
Sarandos is a regular attendee at the festival, and this year he was the first speaker at Deadline Studio. When asked about how he envisions the role of an artist, especially during the current treacherous political climate, Sarandos responded with the following:
“The role of the filmmaker, particularly in the documentary space, has never been more important….To talk truth to power, and what I can do is give them a platform to do that”.
Netflix has been exponentially increasing its output of original content over the past year, including both scripted series and documentaries. The platform has enabled many filmmakers from around the world to bring their vision to life in front of an international audience.
Sarandos was in Park City along with Jason Segel, Rooney Mara, and Robert Redford for the premiere of “The Discovery” at Sundance 2017 tonight.
