Sharjah in the UAE succeeds Athens as World Book Capital City of UNESCO

Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates took over from Athens as World Book Capital City of UNESCO at a special ceremony on Tuesday evening, attended by Greece’s Deputy Foreign Minister Markos Bolaris, who is in the UAE on a two-day working visit, ANA reports.

 The event, according to diplomatic sources, commenced with the unveiling of the World Book Capital City Memorial at the Sharjah University Campus, where Bolaris handed over the institution’s presidency. At a formal dinner on Monday, the deputy Foreign Minister delivered an address by Greek President Prokopios Pavlopoulos.
