The fire that broke out at noon on Sunday in Mycenae in a low vegetation area is partially under control, int.ert.gr reports.
The Greek Ministry of Culture announced that the Archaeological Museum, the main entrance to the archeological site, the main entrance to the Acropolis of Mycenae (Lions Gate), the Burial Circle A, the monuments on the northern slope of the Acropolis, as well as the Cyclopean Walls, have not been affected by the fire.
Based on the ministry’s announcement, the areas that have been affected, but there is no damage to the antiquities, are: the East Wing of the Palace, the Northern Warehouses, the area of the archaic temple at the top of the hill, the upper western slope of the Acropolis, the south-west District and the area of the Religious Center of Mycenae.
The fire brigade is operating with 56 firefighters and 17 vehicles, while 4 aircraft and 2 helicopters are dropping water from the air.
Visitors and employees have been removed from the archeological site for precautionary reasons only.
