The Ministry of Culture has approved the Archaeological Works in the context of the creation of an Urban Walking Route on the Athenian Riviera, specifically from Kallithea to Varkiza.
The works to be carried out in the context of the Archaeological Works concern the following:
– Monitoring of all earthmoving and excavation works (surface excavations, excavations, site formations, embankments) by archaeologists and specialized workers, the number of whom will be determined depending on the active fronts.
– Excavation surveys and works in the parts of the project where ancient remains are revealed during the progress of the technical works.
– Archaeological, topographic, design and photographic documentation of immovable and movable finds, recording, electronic documentation, study, laboratory analyses, if deemed necessary, arrangement/classification, storage of movable finds.
– Protection and promotion of monuments: conservation and promotion of any antiquities preserved by country, immediate measures for the protection and conservation of movable and immovable monuments, conservation of movable finds, supports and other protection works (urgent protection interventions) of immovable finds, studies that may be required for the protection of antiquities.
– Information, publication of finds and monuments.
– Design and construction of signage and archaeological information signs, as provided for in the relevant Memorandum of Cooperation, i.e., placement of signage on the routes that will refer to the locations where visible antiquities are preserved, as follows:
1) at “Polyandrio”, “Esplanade” area of the Stavros Niarchos Cultural Center, Delta Faliro,
2) at the intersection of Ethnarchou Makariou and Moraitini streets,
3) at the Church of Agios Georgios in Paleo Faliro,
4) at the prehistoric settlement on the peninsula of Ag. Kosmas,
5) in the Cultural Route section of the Metropolitan Pole of Hellinikon – Agios Kosmas, which will be connected to the bicycle path – pedestrian path under construction,
6) in the early Christian basilica of Glyfada and
7) in the archaeological sites within the hotel unit “Asteria Glyfada” (prehistoric and Roman cemeteries and prehistoric laboratory facility).
For the execution of the works, the hiring of the necessary personnel is approved, in accordance with, among other things, what is provided for in the Decision on the Inclusion of the project in the Recovery and Resilience Fund.
