The Digital Media Lab (DmLab) of the School of Architecture and Engineering of the Technical University of Crete proudly announces a groundbreaking agreement with the Ministry of Culture to undertake a project of historical significance: the modernization and upgrading of the Old Acropolis Museum through innovative digital technologies.
This initiative is not just about a museum exhibition—it is a unique opportunity to bring history to life through immersive storytelling, interactive installations, and advanced digital experiences. Visitors will be invited to enter an immersive experience with history in motion. The Parthenon is a timeless symbol of democracy—an architectural and artistic symbol where history, ideals, and citizens coexist. In the shadow of the Parthenon, the museum will be transformed into a space for Reflection, Participation, and Transformation, inviting visitors to step into the heart of ancient Athens and witness its evolution before their very eyes.
This ambitious project brings together an interdisciplinary team of architects, archaeologists, 3D modelers, artists, computer engineers, animators, filmmakers, and historians—all working together to create an unparalleled visitor experience leveraging the latest digital technologies, including virtual and augmented reality, advanced 3D scanning and animation techniques, and artificial intelligence.
“We are excited to embark on this transformative journey that will redefine the way visitors interact with history,” said Panos Parthenios, Head of the Digital Media Lab. “Our mission is to bridge the past with the future, making history an interactive and engaging experience for all.”
Through this project, we aim to transform the museum into a dialogue between generations, an invitation to interact with democracy as a living, breathing entity.
