Visits and revenues to museums and archaeological sites in the country showed a significant increase in 2024, according to official data from ELSTAT.
Specifically, during the period of January – December 2024, compared to the corresponding twelve months of 2023, an increase in museum visitors was recorded by 14.7%, while free-entry visitors increased by 2.5%. At the same time, receipts showed an increase of 22.3%, confirming the upward trend in cultural visitor numbers.
Correspondingly, in archaeological sites, for the same period, an increase in visitors was recorded by 4.5%, in free-entry visitors by 4.1%, while receipts increased by 4.7%.
Despite the slight decline recorded in December 2024 compared to the same month in 2023 (a decrease in museum visitors by 3.8% and archaeological sites by 8.2%), the overall picture of the year reflects a clear trend of recovery and strengthening of cultural tourism, both in terms of attendance and revenue.
