Loutraki: Excavation continues at the Roman Villa of Katounistra

The Cultural Development Program Agreement for the continuation of the excavation and the promotion of the Roman Villa at the location of “Katounistra” was signed by the Mayor of Loutraki – Perachora – Agioi Theodoroi, Giorgos Gkionis.

The project budget amounts to 70,000 euros, of which 60,000 come from the Peloponnese Region and 10,000 from the Municipality. The implementation period is set at 24 months, with the Ephorate of Antiquities of Corinth as the executing agency, under the direction of Zoe Aslamatzidou. The signatures of the Regional Governor of Peloponnese, Dimitris Ptochos, and the Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni, will soon follow.

The aim of the intervention is the complete unveiling of the bath, the courtyard and the buildings of the villa, the conservation and protection of the findings, as well as the preparation of a promotion study for the creation of an organized visitor space.

The Roman Villa of Katounistra, associated with the emperor Gallienus, is a monument of particular historical and archaeological importance. Its promotion is expected to enrich the cultural identity of Loutraki, contribute to educational and research activity and function as a new attraction for visitors.
