The dynamic effort to highlight the ancient cities and monuments of the Municipality of KandanosSelino was at the center of an event held at the Archaeological Museum of Chania, confirming the growing importance of cultural heritage as a driver of development for the region.
It should be noted that a coherent program of interventions, developed over recent years, was presented, aiming at research, protection, and the overall promotion of the archaeological heritage. According to the published data, the actions focus on three main pillars: excavation work, conservation and documentation of monuments, and enhancement of access and cultural experience.
For the ancient city of Elyros, the promotion of significant sections of the site is progressing, while archaeological research has begun at the ancient theater. In Lissos, an extensive program of excavations and studies is being carried out, alongside ongoing conservation and promotion of the ancient odeon, strengthening the areas character as a high-value cultural destination.
At the same time, recording and protection of the Byzantine monuments of Selino are being advanced, while cultural trails are being enhanced through the development of a network of pathsan element that plays a key role in attracting visitors interested in walking and cultural tourism.
Simultaneously, publications and documented material are being produced to reinforce the narrative of the region and contribute to the overall promotion of its cultural identity.
The event concluded with a discussion on upcoming interventions, with the shared observation that the cultural heritage of Selino constitutes a strategic advantage that must be leveraged with planning, consistency, and continuity.
