Municipality of South Kynouria: Imposition of Environmental Water Usage Fee

The Municipality of South Kynouria has decided to impose an environmental fee on water usage.

The fee will be €0.00155 per cubic meter of water consumed for domestic supply, which will be charged to consumers and collected clearly and separately through water bills issued in the third four-month period of each year. Additionally, the fee will be €0.00162 per cubic meter of water consumed for irrigation (if service records and data exist, noting that currently they do not) and €0.00097 per cubic meter of water consumed for industrial use, and it will also be collected clearly and separately through the water bills issued in the third four-month period of each year.

It is noted that the Environmental Fee is subject to VAT at a rate of 13%, in accordance with a relevant document from the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE). As mentioned, the costing of irrigation services provided to third parties is based on metering, which currently makes it impossible to calculate the environmental cost and resource cost of this specific service.

Furthermore, in the Municipal Communities of Platanaki, Palaiochori, Vlissidia, Kounoupia, and Mariou, water meters have not been installed, and a flat fee is applied, making the collection and transfer of the corresponding environmental fee impossible. In the settlement of Chounis, D.K. Kounoupia, water meters have not been installed, and no water bills are issued. For individual boreholes not connected to organized collective networks, located within the Municipality’s jurisdiction, the detailed file must be provided by the Environmental Department, and it must be confirmed whether water meters are installed to record cubic meters and calculate the environmental fee.

Moreover, the decision to impose the environmental fee will remain in force and be applied alongside the current Municipal Water Supply Regulation, even after any future amendments, without affecting or altering the relevant regulatory provisions, as long as the provisions of the current Water Supply Regulation are not in conflict with the terms of this decision.
