Greek Coast Guard is searching the sea area south of the island of Ios for a 29-year-old crew member who went missing from a Maltese-flagged freighter “New Island” on Friday.
According to information, the man didn’t show up for his shift and it is believed he may have fallen overboard for unknown reasons. One coast guard vessel and a navy helicopter are participating in the search and rescue operation.
The “New Island” had left the port of Gulluk in Turkey and was sailing to Castellon in Spain. It is not known what cargo it was carrying.
