A Navy official and crew member of Greek cruiser “Georgios Averof” rescued a 25-year-old foreign national who fell in the sea in Thessaloniki port on Saturday morning, the local port authority announced.
According to initial reports, by the time the port authority was alerted to the incident, the Navy officer had already brought the man to Pier A in Thessaloniki. An ambulance was called to transfer the man to hospital where he remains for precautionary reasons.
It is not yet clear how the 25-year-old fell into the sea or how the Navy officer assisted him. The port authority is carrying out an investigation.
