Greek Archaeologists appalled by deaths and monuments destruction in Afrin

The Association of Greek Archaeologists expressed its “sadness” and “indignation” for the humanitarian disaster and the destruction of cultural heritage in Syria and specifically the area of Afrin, in a resolution voted by its general assembly on Wednesday, ANA reports.

“It is clear that, next to the humanitarian disaster, next to the uprooting of so many people who are refugees in Europe and elsewhere, the vandalism of monuments alter the cultural map of the Near East, causing terrible disasters and irreparable wounds in material evidence and collective memory,” the association noted and called for the restoration of peace in the country.
