A family of black-winged stilts search for food in a wetland in the northeast Peloponnese, near Nafplio, on the anniversary of World Water Day on Thursday, March 22, ANA reports adding that this will be the 25th World Water Day, which was first established by the United Nations at the Rio de Janeiro Earth Summit in 1922.
World Water Day aims to focus attention on the importance of water and the challenges in managing this all-important resource. The theme for World Water Day 2018 is “Nature for Water?” exploring nature-based solutions to the water challenges we face in the 21st century.
One of the best ways to do this, according to the UN, is to protect natural water resources and environments, such as lakes, wetlands and flood zones.
