Athens Acropolis opened without entrance fee on Monday after heatwave avoided

Greece’s culture ministry on Monday abruptly “changed gears” and ordered the opening of the Acropolis archaeological site in Athens, with free access, from 5 to 8 p.m. the same day.

The site was closed earlier over fears that a heatwave would hit the Athens area, a weather forecast that didn’t materialize.

The decision to close the site had generated fierce criticism.
