Αssociated Press reports from Athens that Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ advisory group of doctors and scientists giving guidance on dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic are said to be thinking of recommending people wear two masks for better protection.
If not that, then masks that fit better even though it’s common in public gathering spots such as supermarkets to see customers and staff wearing masks below their noses or even on their chins, which doesn’t work, with no apparent enforcement.
Achilleas Gkikas, a pathology professor on the team, told SKAI TV that the committee is discussing the use of a double mask by the public but it would be optional without explaining why it wouldn’t be mandatory if it’s more effective.
He also said authorities may have to extend the strict lockdown in Attica beyond the end of the month, already hinting it will go on if there isn’t a downturn in cases, hospital admissions, or people on ventilators in public hospital Intensive Care Units (ICUs) nearing capacity.
