Cyprus faces first heatwave of the year

Cyprus has sweltered through the first heatwave of the year with the temperature climbing to 40.6°C in Athalassa, Nicosia, greekcitytimes.com reports.

High temperatures are set to continue during the week.

Last year, the first 40°C recorded was on May 15 in Astromeritis, while in 2019, it was on May 28 at the Athalassa national forest park area.

According to the Cyprus Department of Meteorology, the temperature is expected to gradually drop on Wednesday and Thursday but stay significantly above the average seasonal levels inland and in the mountainous areas.
