The municipality of Pangaio decided to submit a proposal to the Erasmus+ 2025 Program under the title of Equality-Based Tourism.
The main objective of the program is to improve accessibility in tourism, with inclusive spaces for people with disabilities.
The rationale for the decision states, among other things, that tourism is an important global sector with an economic, social, and environmental contribution. It supports economic development, enhances cultural exchanges, and contributes to the preservation of the environment. However, despite the development of tourism, accessibility for tourists with disabilities remains a major issue. Many destinations prioritize general tourism infrastructure, often neglecting the development of accessible facilities. This leads to the exclusion of people with disabilities from many tourist services, such as beaches, walking trails, and other recreational areas.
Therefore, this project aims to address the issue of accessibility in tourism and to create inclusive spaces for people with disabilities. By highlighting the access challenges faced by people with physical and sensory disabilities, the municipality of Pangaio aims to develop innovative solutions that will make tourist destinations more accessible. These solutions are expected to improve the tourist experience for people with disabilities and promote a more accessible approach to the tourism sector, supporting sustainable tourism practices and increasing overall visitor numbers.
In conclusion, this project will benefit people with disabilities and contribute to the local economy and community, making the tourism sector more inclusive, diverse, and sustainable. With the education provided on accessibility, the tourism sector will be able to consciously respond to the needs of people with disabilities, thus increasing their participation in tourism activities and raising social awareness.
It is noted that the coordinating partner of the action is the Metropolitan Municipality of Trabzon and the participating countries are Greece, Turkey, Spain, and Italy.
