British Foreign Office's recommendation for fires in Greece

The British Foreign Office today renewed its travel advice for a high risk of wildfires in Greece during the summer season, from April to October.

The recommendation includes instructions for protecting British citizens in the event of a fire in our country, and suggests that they register via mobile phone to receive emergency alerts for wildfires near their location.

Specifically, British citizens are warned that wildfires are very dangerous and unpredictable, while they are informed that in order to avoid causing wildfires, they should…

  • Not leave litter in the environment, especially glass
  • ensure that cigarettes are completely extinguished and
  • Not light barbecues.

They are also informed that causing a fire, even unintentionally, is a criminal offense in Greece, as well as the emergency number 112 in case a fire is detected.

At the same time, as noted in the recommendation, Britons should be careful if they are near or in the area of ​​a fire, and are urged to follow official updates @112Greece, the instructions of the authorities, to call 112 if they are in immediate danger and to contact their airline or travel agent in order to help them return to the UK.
