Accessible beaches in Skopelos: Support for accessibility through the Recovery Fund

The Ministry of Tourism has approved the application for support for the investment plan of the municipality of Skopelos, within the framework of the action Improving and Modifying Accessibility to Greek Beaches of the Recovery and Resilience Fund, which is funded by the European Union – NextGeneration EU.

The above action aims to improve the accessibility of people with mobility problems or disabled people in general, through integrated investment interventions of semi-permanent installations to improve the existing infrastructure.

In particular, the Ministry of Tourism approved the application for aid for the 4 beaches of Skopelos: Panormos, Neo Klima, Agnontas and Limenas Beach of Skopelos, with a total budget of 272,652 euros. The approved interventions include the construction of non-permanent beach access ramps (supply and installation of a non-permanent device for access to the sea for people with mobility problems), supply of non-permanent auxiliary facilities such as removable changing rooms, portable sanitary areas and walkways consisting of sections of appropriate length for easy transport and storage during the winter period (supply and installation of a removable, wooden beach walkway 1.5 m wide suitable for access by people with mobility problems, consisting of articulated sections, supply and installation of a non-permanent, removable, wooden changing room of specifications for people with mobility problems with a shower and an installed autonomous photovoltaic system), shading areas for the protection of bathers (supply and installation of non-permanent shading areas of specifications for people with mobility problems, supply of a telemetry package and alarm devices (supply and installation of an alarm system, supply and installation of a telemetry system), special signage on accessible beaches (supply and installation of information signs), other equipment and infrastructure of an accessible beach (location – demarcation of a parking space).

The above project is considered complete, after inspection and certification of both the physical object in terms of installation and actual operation, i.e. it has been physically completed, the total investment costs have been received and certified or it has been fully executed. In addition, the end date for the implementation of the project is 31 December 2025.

It is noted that, among other things, the investment is maintained in the area where the aid is granted for at least five 5 years after the completion of the investment. This does not prevent the replacement of a unit or equipment that has become obsolete or has suffered damage during this period, as long as economic activity is maintained in the specific area during the relevant minimum required period.
