A new initiative aimed at strengthening the tourist promotion of the Municipality of Lamia, aims to highlight the cultural identity and historical continuity of the region, through the production of digital audiovisual material that will showcase four emblematic archaeological and historical sites. These are the Archaeological Museum of Lamia, the Castle of Lamia, the Byzantine Museum of Phthiotis and the Castle of Ypatis.
To this end, the Ephorate of Antiquities of Phthiotis and Evrytania approved the relevant filming-videography license, as well as the use of the produced material, without financial compensation, exclusively for the purposes of tourist promotion of the Municipality of Lamia.
Digital promotion of the identity of the place
The produced material will be exclusively cultural and informative in nature. It will not be used, directly or indirectly, for commercial or economic purposes, while its transfer to third parties or its exploitation for other uses is prohibited. Its use is strictly limited to the context of tourist promotion of the cultural heritage of the Municipality.
The decision of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Phthiotis and Evrytania explicitly stipulates that filming must be carried out within the specified working hours, in consultation with the competent service and with the presence of specialized personnel. The procedure will be carried out in accordance with the instructions of the service, in order to ensure the protection and proper functioning of the archaeological sites.
Respect for the monumental character
Filming will not include the use of stage or scenographic interventions. Up to four people, who are provided for by the script and will be decently dressed, will appear discreetly in the audiovisual material. Their presence will not be accompanied by verbal references and will be carried out with respect for the monumental space and the aesthetics of the environment.
A special provision exists for the Archaeological Museum of Lamia, where filming will be strictly limited to the exterior, as the work of enriching the Museum’s permanent exhibitions is underway inside.
Specifications for the use of drones
In the event that Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS – drones) are used, the person responsible for filming is required to submit to the Ephorate of Antiquities the relevant permit from the Civil Aviation Service, before the start of aerial filming. The use of drones will be carried out in accordance with the applicable legislation and the provisions of the Ministry of Culture, in order to ensure safety and compliance with the terms of protection of the monuments.
Highlighting historical continuity through images
The initiative is part of a broader strategy to highlight the cultural identity of the Municipality of Lamia, which has rare historical and archaeological wealth. Using modern digital media, the aim is to enhance the extroversion of the region and to create highly aesthetic and documented material, which will function as a tool for promotion, information and cultural education for the public.
The four reference points that will be filmed form a distinct cultural narrative:
The Archaeological Museum of Lamia, which dominates the Castle and illuminates aspects of the ancient and Roman periods,
the Castle of Lamia itself, which is an emblematic landmark with continuous use from antiquity to modern history,
the Byzantine Museum of Phthiotis, which is housed in the historic building of the former prison and presents exhibits from the Middle Byzantine and Late Byzantine periods,
and the Castle of Ypatis, with its centuries-old history and strategic importance from the Hellenistic years to the Byzantine era.
