European Union – Arab League Summit held in Sharm el Sheikh of Egypt

Migration and regional security are two of the issues dominating the first European Union – Arab League Summit, held in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt, according to int.ert.gr.

Dozens of Arab and European leaders are participating, including the Greek Prime Minister, who has a number of important contacts during the Summit. Speaking at the summit, Alexis Tsipras stressed that an important example of understanding the importance of the EU-Arab League co-operation, is the refugee crisis that has shaken the whole of Europe. The response should focus on addressing the root causes of migration, such as conflicts and poverty, he noted.

The Prime minister also underlined that the EU-Arab League relations should be multi-level and based on a dual approach: broaden the dialogue on regional challenges and promote a positive cooperation agenda, particularly in the fields of economy, energy, transport, education and civil society.
