Event for completion of 120 years since establishment of Orthopaedic Surgery at Medical School

With an anniversary event under the auspices of H.E. the President of the Republic Mr. Konstantinos A. Tasoulas, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens celebrates the completion of 120 years since the establishment of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Medical School.

The event will take place on Monday, September 15 at 18:00 in the Great Hall of the University of Athens (main building, Panepistimiou 30).

The event will begin with an address by the Rector of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Professor Gerasimos Siassos. Greetings will follow from the Minister of Health, Mr. Adonis Georgiadis, the Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, Ms. Sofia Zacharaki, the Dean of the School of Health Sciences, Professor Pagona Lagiou, the President of the School of Medicine, Professor Nikolaos Arkadopoulos and the President of the Athens Medical Association, Mr. Georgios Patoulis. Professor Panagiotis Papagelopoulos will then give a speech entitled: “The Historical Journey and the Work of the First Orthopaedic Surgery, the P. N. Soukakos Orthopaedic Research and Education Center, the Research Institute of Orthopaedic Oncology and Limb Salvage, and the Museum of Greek Orthopaedic Surgery of the National University of Athens. Also, speeches will be given by Professor Georgios Babis entitled: “Historical Path and Work of the 2nd Orthopedic Surgery Clinic, NKUA”, Professor Spyros Pnevmatikos entitled: “Historical Path and Work of the 3rd Orthopedic Surgery Clinic, NKUA”, Professor Efstathios Chronopoulos entitled: “Historical Path and Work of the Musculoskeletal System Diseases Research Laboratory “Theodoros Garofalidis”, NKUA”, and Professor of Orthopedics Matthew Abdel, MD, Chair, Surgical Practice, Mayo Clinic, and Chair of the Orthopedic Surgery Research, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, U.S.A. entitled: “The Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Mayo Clinic: 120 Years in the Making”. An artistic musical event will follow with the mezzo-soprano Ms. Willy Kyriakopoulou and the string quartet “AENAON”.
