Kardamyla: Memories of the 1940s come alive with a torchlight procession and the burning

With respect for historical memory and with the participation of the local community, Kardamyla honors the Epic of 1940 this year, highlighting the national unity and heroism of the Greeks through events that unite generations.

On Monday, October 27, at 19:00, the established torchlight procession will take place in Ano Kardamyla, starting from the hall of the Philoprowodos Omilos Kardamyla (F.O.K.), behind the Kindergarten. The route will pass through Fonopetra, Agios Loukas, Neragogi, Ano Kardamyla Square and Pera Panagia, before ending with the return to the F.O.K.

That same evening, at 8:00 PM, the mountains of the village will be illuminated by the burning “NO”, which will be lit by the youth of Kardamyli, reviving a touching old custom. The luminous symbol will dominate over the village, reminding in a tangible way the timeless message of resistance, freedom and unity.

At this point, it should be emphasized that the custom of the burning “NO” is a living link with the past, a bright call to remember that the great moments of History are born from the collective soul of a people that resists and is inspired.
