Stork nests in Greece not to be moved after birds settle in February

Stork nests may not be moved when the birds have settled in them, after February, the Thermaikos Gulf authority warned on Tuesday, as the northern Greek harbingers of spring made their annual homecoming to the Axios River Delta area recently from Africa and some residents found them bothersome, ANA reports.

Biologist Eva Katrana, who works at the authority, said that storks are not afraid of people and like high places to build new nests or occupy old ones, especially the wooden electricity pylons of the Public Power Corporation (PPC), where authorities have provided protective bases. She added  the birds also build nests on top of belfries or trees, near wetlands where snakes, frogs, insects and mice are plentiful.
