The general secretary for energy and mineral raw materials at the environment and energy ministry, Michalis Verriopoulos, on Monday announced the launch of a pilot competition for the installation of offshore windpower units, speaking at an event co-organised by the Embassy of Norway in Athens and the Hellenic Wind Energy Association HWEA/ELETAEN, ANA reports.
The Ambassador of Norway Jorn Gjelstad, in his speech, stressed: “Both for Greece and Norway, two countries with huge coastline, the seas hold the key for the resolving multiple challenges. The floating wind parks could not only turn Greece into a top energy player but also invigorate important areas of the economy, such as shipping, shipbuilding and industry. In parallel, offshore wind energy has a lower environmental impact than that on land.”
