Alonissos tops the list of Greek destinations without mass tourism

Alonissos topped a list of quality Greek destinations without mass tourism, announced by the website Generationvoyage.fr.

After researching the preferences of the readers of the popular French website, based on the criteria of quality of services, tranquility, range of options, and variety of alternative activities, a list was published that includes island destinations from all over Greece.

As the medium reports, “nestled in the Sporades archipelago, Alonissos is a true paradise for diving enthusiasts. The island is the ‘heart’ of one of the largest natural marine parks in Europe. The underwater landscape of Alonissos is impressive, with the mysterious ancient shipwreck of Peristera and the exceptional marine biodiversity.

On land, the island retains its authentic charm with pine forests, red-roofed houses, and picturesque fishing villages, while in its port, Patitiri, time seems to have stopped. Chora, the historic capital, impresses with its picturesque alleys and breathtaking views. The beautiful beaches and islets of the Park “steal” the show.”

The generationvoyage.fr list is completed with Chios, Kythira, Ithaca, Kea, and Patmos. It is noted that throughout the previous period, the Municipality of Alonissos implemented actions to promote the destination in selected media and travel blogs in markets such as Greece, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Scandinavia, France, the Netherlands, and other countries.

Just recently, another distinction was added to the “assets” of the destination. The exotic paradise of the Sporades Islands took third place in the new list published by Lonely Planet with the 23 destinations on the planet that are suitable for those traveling alone.

As the popular travel medium states, “properly planning a trip without companions is not just a formal process but has evolved into an art. With the trend of solo traveling gaining continuous new supporters, 2025 will be an excellent year for trips in this category.” The international website considers careful selection of the destination to be a key factor for the success of this venture and then suggests the most suitable destinations after research by experts.

The Lonely Planet list includes Iceland, Lisbon, and Alonissos in the top three places. The top ten is completed by the Copper Coast of Ireland, Munich, Sikkim in India, Chiang Mai in Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore and Uzbekistan, while the list is completed with destinations from the USA, Japan, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Belize, Ecuador, Peru, South and West Africa, the Philippines, Australia and New Zealand. According to Lonely Planet, “Alonissos reveals unique natural beauties clothed” in pine forests and turquoise waters. The absence of mass tourism gives a pleasantly hospitable atmosphere that is consistent with the slow relaxing pace of life, the alleys, paths, chapels and the picturesque Old Alonissos.

In Alonissos, the National Marine Park stands out as one of the largest in Europe, as well as the Peristera shipwreck, which is an excellent underwater museum. It is noted that in view of the new season, the Municipality of Alonissos, with the help of specialized consultants, organized scheduled contacts at the international tourism exhibition in London, where associations of travel writers and professionals, representatives of tourism organizations and journalists from international media showed their interest in the potential of the destination and the special forms of tourism.

The quality and authenticity of Alonissos pleasantly surprise the visitor

“Our island attracts a wide range of travelers, families, couples, individual visitors and groups, who feel Alonissos is their home and enjoy quality services, unique nature, unpretentious hospitality, local cuisine, turquoise waters, relaxation, positive energy and unique activities. “The quality and authenticity of Alonissos pleasantly surprise Greek and foreign visitors at a time when mass tourism and overtourism have made their appearance in many destinations,” the Mayor of Alonissos, Panagiotis Anagnostou, points out to Tornos News.
