Rhodes | Event for the protection of biodiversity

An event for the protection of biodiversity will be held at the IRENE PALACE hotel in Kolymbia, Rhodes, on Monday 5/05/25, with an emphasis on Regenerative Agriculture and Marine Ecosystems (at 18.30 – duration 2 hours)

The event, which is held within the framework of the International Campaign “World Days of Action”, is open to the public. It is aimed at the primary sector, growers and producers, hotel suppliers, entrepreneurs, hotel executives and hoteliers, hotel managers, travel agents, tourism schools, vocational high schools, local government, tourism and cleaning departments, Development companies, the Gennimatas Youth Center, beekeepers, gastronomy professionals, agronomists, gardeners, etc.

The speaker on the topic of regenerative agriculture is Nikiforos Steiakakis from SFDO (Sustainable Food Destination Organization), which collaborates with TUI and the South Aegean Region in the project “the Rhodes Co-Lab” for the transformation of the island into a sustainable tourist destination.

The speaker on the topic of coastal biodiversity is Vivian Louizidou, biologist, oceanologist at the Rhodes Hydrobiological Station, who offers a great work of information and education to students and tourism professionals on the issues of the marine environment in combination with climate change.

The event is part of the following actions of the “Blue Flag” organization:

  • “The Foundation for Environmental Education organizes an International Campaign entitled “Global Action Days” every year with the aim of encouraging schools, communities, and organizations to participate in environmental actions, focusing on climate protection.
  • The International Campaign “Global Action Days” for 2025 highlights the importance of restoring ecosystems and protecting biodiversity through practical activities that encourage local communities to better understand the ecosystems around them and the role that we all play in protecting and restoring them.
