With the personalized message “KIMOLOS, like you, Unique, Authentic, Real” and with the English translation “KIMOLOS, like you, Unique, Authentic, Real”, the Municipality of Kimolos addresses its potential visitors in view of the new tourist season. The strategy that was developed and approved by the Tourist Committee and the Municipal Council is based on highlighting the experiential character of the island, identifying the visitor with the destination.
As stated in the rationale, the island is given a “human” dimension, bringing it closer to the human visitor and highlighting its three basic characteristics of the place, which are:
· Unique
· Authentic
· Real.
This is an innovation that avoids the “trivial” in the previous methodology of approaching markets, since the destination “speaks” to the visitor, making him special for an equally special place and giving him the advantage, the feeling, and the recognition that he is neither random nor like the “mass”. Because, indeed, Kimolos, as emphasized in the rationale of the Municipality’s strategy, has neither been nor will it become a place with a mass character.
The Experiential character of Kimolos is reflected in all aspects of the stories and activities offered. And it is the only “answer” to the need to specialize the offer, in the logic of integrating the visitor with the place and its inhabitants. Its uniqueness is reflected in a series of surveys and measurements that favor its tourist development, which were taken into account in the preparation of the strategy.
According to them, tourism is gradually becoming a powerful tool for learning about different cultures. People are exploring the world to learn and discover different ways of life. This information is also supported by the annual survey by Booking.com, which revealed that 75% of travelers worldwide are looking for authentic experiences that are representative of the local culture. And the tourism product of Kimolos proves that this is a destination that is distinguished by its authenticity, that is, an island without “fancy”. And this makes it unique.

For this reason, the further strengthening and development of anthropocentric forms of tourism is preferred, such as natural, cultural, marine and sports, gastronomic, and religious, alongside geotourism, wedding, diving, as well as adventure, wellness,s and cruise tourism. Specifically, the strategy states:
Nature Tourism: Its ultimate goal is to ensure that tourism benefits both the environment and the locals, while encouraging a deeper connection between visitors and nature. It prioritizes environmental conservation, cultural heritage protection, education, and community development, ensuring that natural areas and wildlife are preserved for future generations. The flora and fauna of Kimolos, as well as Polyaigos, make it an ideal spot for ecotourism and nature tourism.
Cultural Tourism: The attractions of Kimolos have a significant cultural character. The most notable are the Castle and the Village, which are points of attraction for a high number of tourists. Also, local events and museums attract just as many quality visitors with cultural interests. Cultural tourism is an alternative form of tourism that has experienced significant growth worldwide in recent years, since, on the one hand, it contributes to the international promotion of a place’s cultural heritage and, on the other hand, it gives it a significant comparative advantage over other tourist destinations, especially with qualitative characteristics.
Adventure tourism: Adventure tourism can indeed be developed in Kimolos, taking advantage of its natural landscapes, unique geological features, and pristine environment. While the island is relatively small and calm, it offers a variety of activities aimed at outdoor enthusiasts, making it an excellent destination for gentle adventure tourism. Kimolos has many hiking trails that lead to magnificent views and geological wonders such as Skiadi. It is also an ideal destination for kayaking, paddleboarding, and diving.
Wellness Tourism: The goal of wellness tourism is the mental health and peace of visitors, self-improvement, and the reduction of anxiety and stress, which are prevalent worldwide. Kimolos contains isolated natural landscapes that are suitable for mental therapies, such as yoga, massage, and any type of meditation. It also has thermal springs such as Agioklima Beach and Therma. With the qualitative promotion of the destination and the promotion of the activities of this alternative form of tourism on the island, there is a significant potential to expand the population groups that will be interested in visiting Kimolos.
Marine / Sports Tourism: Marine tourism in Kimolos is one of the most attractive features of the island, thanks to its pristine beaches, crystal clear waters. Its marine charm makes it an ideal destination for travelers seeking relaxation, exploration, and marine adventures.
Kimolos is full of sandy beaches and coves that await the visitor and provide fertile ground for the development of marine tourism on the island. The beaches can become points of marine activities such as pedal boats, fishing, and guided tours with inflatable boats. With the establishment of associations that support the creation and maintenance of marine activities, incoming tourists are encouraged to rent boats and try activities that will bring them closer to the sea and the beaches of the island. The proper development and promotion of this alternative form of tourism has the potential to provide significant economic results.
Gastronomic Tourism: Kimolos has a distinct gastronomic identity. Gastronomy enhances the travel experience for all tourists. Primarily, tourists who travel for the gastronomic interest of the place are of a high-income level.
