"Blue Flag" 2025 | Greece consistently 2nd worldwide – Champions the prefecture of Halkidiki and the Region of Crete

For another year, Greece came second worldwide in the “Blue Flag” program, behind the consistently first Spain.

According to the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature (ESPN), National Operator of the International “Blue Flag” Program in our country, 623 Greek coasts, 17 marinas, and 17 tourist boats won the international quality award “BLUE FLAG” this year.

The International Committee awarded 4,302 coasts, 736 marinas, and 158 tourist boats around the world.

As reported by the EEPF, a steady upward trend is observed in our country with an increase in the number of awarded points every year, with the awards once again exceeding 600, and in the total of 52 countries participating in the Program, Greece holds 15% of the internationally awarded coasts.

The first prefecture in Greece was the prefecture of Halkidiki, with 93 flags, while at the regional level, Crete remained first with 153 flags.

The annual announcement of the Blue Flag-awarded coasts, marinas, and tourist boats of our country took place yesterday, May 15, 2025, at Glyfada Golf Gardens in Attica. As part of the event, on the previous day, May 14, 2025, experiential Environmental Education workshops were held on the award-winning coast of Glyfada with the participation of more than a hundred children and teachers from schools in Glyfada and Voula. The children participated in the educational activities and watched a lifeguard demonstration by the Panhellenic Lifeguard School (PA.S.C.NA.), responsible for the lifeguard coverage of the Municipality of Glyfada.
