The leading French tourism magazine GEO glorifies the Greek summer in the Aegean islands with a series of dedicated articles in print and digital format, as a result of the familiarization trip (press trip) organized by the French National Tourist Office between 15 – 30 September 2024.
The respected tourism editor, Mr. Sebastien Desurmont, visited Chios, Patmos, Sifnos, Serifos, Syros, Amorgos, Koufonisia, Iraklia, and Schinoussa on behalf of GEO, in a particularly demanding trip, organized by the Head of the French National Tourist Office, Emmy Anagnostopoulou.
The 28 pages of the tribute published in the printed version of GEO (June/July 2025 issue) include multi-page tributes to Chios, Patmos and many small authentic islands of the Cyclades, as well as a two-page tribute to six islands near Athens (Kea, Kythnos, Aegina, Agistri, Poros and Hydra), which the author had visited on a previous trip.
In the digital edition of GEO, four tributes were published to Serifos, Sifnos, Koufonisia, the Small Cyclades, Amorgos, Syros, and Patmos, while special mention is made to the Mastichochoria and the Mastic of Chios with its wonderful properties.
GEO is the most popular travel magazine in France, with 2,874,000 monthly readers and 6,400,000 online visitors. It promotes experiential holidays, nature activities, exploration, and other alternative forms of tourism, promoting sustainable tourism development in local communities.
The magazine has a circulation of 93,410 copies and a total readership of 2,961,421 unique users for the print and online editions.
Its readers, 53% male-47% female, are interested in nature and activity tourism, seeking unique experiences and inspiration all year round, with 47% of them being of high socio-economic level CSP+ and 59% under fifty.
Mr. Sebastien Desurmont appears in his texts particularly satisfied with his experiences in the “Secret Cyclades” – as he characterizes them – and in a series of posts and stories on Instagram he refers to the Greek National Tourist Office of France and its Head Emmy Anagnostopoulou, with thanks for their assistance in the implementation of this ambitious and demanding trip, of multiple Greek destinations.
Tribute to the gastronomy of Sifnos
From the same journalistic trip, the material emerged and was published in February 2025, the special issue of GEO Hors-Série, entitled: “Where to travel in 2025”. The cover and the 12-page report were dedicated to Sifnos, its gastronomy, culture, arts, and people.
