The signing of a deed designating Piraeus Bank as the restoration contractor for these projects gives the go-ahead for the first anti-corrosion and anti-flood projects, before winter, for the restoration of the areas of Corinth affected by the major fire that broke out in the region on July 22.
The deed was signed during a meeting convened by the Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Stavros Papastavrou, at the Ministry.
Specifically, the completion period is set at four months after the start of the works, while in any case this period cannot exceed six months. The total budget of the project amounts to 1,278,353.78 euros excluding VAT.
It is recalled that, immediately after the fire, Piraeus Bank had expressed its intention to contribute to the implementation of anti-erosion and anti-flood projects for the total area of 15,800 acres that were affected.
The conclusion of such significant undertakings is provided for in a relevant legislative intervention made by the Mitsotakis government in 2021, which allows for the cooperation of the state and private parties for the implementation of anti-flood and anti-erosion projects, for the prevention and restoration of the natural environment and affected areas, with speed, flexibility and efficiency.
This was preceded by the conduct of a relevant study by the Ministry of Environment and Energy, while the project provides for the continuation, among other things, of the recruitment of specialized personnel from Forestry Labor Cooperatives (DASE) for its implementation, which will be carried out by the contractor.
At the same time, during the working meeting, the Minister signed the inclusion of the act to address the water shortage phenomena in the Municipality of Velos-Vocha, for a total amount of 3,102,300 euros.
The 3rd meeting on the above issues was attended by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport and Member of Parliament for Corinth, Mr. Christos Dimas, the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy and Member of Parliament for Corinth, Mr. Nikos Tagaras, the Governor of Peloponnese, Mr. Dimitris Ptochos, the ND Member of Parliament for Corinth, Ms. Maria Eleni Soukouli-Viliali, the Secretary General of Forests of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, Mr. Stathis Stathopoulos, the Director General of Forests, Mr. Evangelos Gountoufas, the Mayor of Sikyonia, Mr. Spyros Stamatopoulos, the Mayor of Velos-Vocha, Mr. Thanasis Manavis, the President of the Local Community of Kastania, Mr. Spyros Dedakis, the Forester of Corinth Mr. Alexios Adam, the Chief Retail Banking & Board Member of Piraeus Bank, Mr. Vasilis Koutentakis, as well as other executives of the Bank.
