Crete at the Global Ecotourism Forum 2025 – Resilient and sustainable tourism in focus

The Region of Crete actively participated in the work of the Global Ecotourism Forum 2025, organized by the Generalitat de Catalunya from 22 to 24 October in Mon San Benet, Sant Fruitos de Bages, Catalonia, within the framework of the European project NaTour4CChange.

Representatives of organizations and experts from around the world discussed the prospects for a resilient and environmentally responsible tourism model, with an emphasis on the relationship of tourism with nature and the impacts of climate change.

At this point, it should be emphasized that the partners of the NaTour4CChange project, including the Region of Crete, held a technical working meeting, where they exchanged experiences and identified the next stages of implementation. At the same time, they participated in the 2nd Interregional Experience Exchange Workshop, focusing on tourism governance and climate change adaptation through nature-based solutions.

It is worth noting that representatives from Andalusia, Croatia, Sardinia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Crete presented their Regions’ Climate Action Plans, which have been developed within the framework of the project, highlighting common challenges and best practices for strengthening the resilience of the tourism sector.

At the same time, educational excursions to Natural Parks of Catalonia were held within the framework of the Forum, giving participants the opportunity to get to know the rich biodiversity and natural heritage of the region through experiential activities.

The NaTour4CChange project is implemented by the Region of Crete and is funded by the Interreg Euro-MED financial framework. Its aim is to promote a sustainable tourism development model in coastal areas of high environmental value, through nature-based solutions that contribute to addressing the challenges of climate change.

Crete’s presence in international forums such as this one confirms the Region’s strategy for a green, smart and resilient tourism development that connects people with the environment and the future of the place.
