The green regeneration of the land area of the Nea Krini Fishing Refuge is entering the final stretch.
Following the approval by the Court of Auditors at the end of last month, the approval of funding by the Managing Authority of the Ministry of Rural Development & Food also came, a fact that seals the continuation and completion of the project without delays.
This development is very important, because it concerns the regeneration of the entire land area of the refuge and combines the upgrading of fishing activity with the creation of a modern, universally accessible, green public space of approximately eight acres.
The goal set, to prevent the risk of delivering an undeveloped and inhospitable area with soil and mud, has been achieved. The idea of green regeneration is becoming a reality.
The progress of the project implementation and the study for the transformation of the land zone into a green urban island were presented to the Kalamaria Municipal Council last April by a large delegation of the Technical Service of the Region of Central Macedonia, in the presence of the Deputy Governor of Thessaloniki, Kostas Gioutikas.
With the completion of the financing procedures, the next step is the start of construction work, so that the Fishing Shelter can be delivered to professional fishermen as a modern, functional and safe space and to the city as a new, green public space.
The idea and proposal for the regeneration and promotion of the land area, which was not included in the initial study, was the result of close cooperation between the municipal authority, the Region of Central Macedonia and its Technical Services and was accepted by the Municipal Council of Kalamaria.
This positive development reflects the strategic choice and commitment of the Municipal Authority for a unified design of the coastal front so that it becomes an accessible zone for walking, recreation, culture and activities, with respect for the natural environment and the prospect of economic and tourist development.
In a few months, Kalamaria will welcome an important infrastructure for our fishermen and at the same time a large recreational park for the citizens. A project that is being completed thanks to the persistence and special effort of all the administrations of the Municipality in the past and the warm support of the fishermen. Thrasyvoulos Lazaridis who inspired and started it, Christodoulos Economidis, Theodosis Bakoglidis, Yiannis Dardamanelis and Chrysa Arapoglou.
An important project that the former Regional Governor and current Greek Commissioner to the European Commission, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, believed in, supported, secured the financing and undertook its construction.
Kalamaria deserves to enjoy a beautiful and functional space by the sea.
The Fisherman’s Shelter and its park belong to all the people of Kalamaria and visitors to our city.
