A protest gathering will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, December 9, at 11:00 a.m. outside the Ministry of National Economy and Finance, in response to developments concerning the Glystra and Pefkos beaches in Lagonisi. A march will follow toward the ETAD offices, where the resolution of the 7th open public assembly for free beaches will be submitted.
Interest has intensified following the reinstatement of the 2003 contract, which grants approximately 326 acres for 99 years, covering a 1,600-meter coastline. Since 2024, ETAD has taken actions that, according to residents and organizations, create faits accomplis, such as demolitions and restricted access.
It should be noted that Glystra beach has become a central symbol of the movement. Residents and the municipal authority remain on site daily to prevent new interventions, while the company involved in the contract claims high compensation for lost profits.
At the same time, the discussion extends beyond Lagonisi. Access issues have arisen in Voula, Alimos, Elliniko, Vouliagmeni, Varkiza, Sounio, and Avlaki, where citizens and municipalities challenge concessions and practices that limit access to the seashore.
