Hotel expert to support strategy of Thomas Cook

Thomas Cook, one of Europe’s leading holiday companies, announces the appointment of Andr? Witschi to its Group Management Committee in the role of Interim Chief of Hotels and Resorts, reflecting the central importance of this part of the Thomas Cook growth strategy.

Andr? Witschi brings a wealth of specialist experience in hotel management, most recently as Managing Director of ACCOR Hotels and Chairman of the Executive Board of Steigenberger Hotels. From mid-July 2016, Andr? will help shape and develop the next phase of Thomas Cook’s Hotels and Resorts function ahead of a permanent appointment, the search for which is underway.

The new role will allow greater executive focus not just on the Hotels and Resorts function but on Group Airlines which will now have a dedicated Chief Airlines Officer in Christoph Debus at a key stage for that part of the business. The restructure of Thomas Cook’s Hotels and Resorts management team follows the decision by Karl Schattmaier, the current General Manager of Hotels & Resorts, to retire. Karl will hand over to Andr? Witschi in mid-July, but will continue to support Thomas Cook as a member of the Supervisory Board of Thomas Cook GmbH.

Peter Fankhauser said: “Andr? Witschi is one of the most experienced international hotel managers in the industry and will play a key part in setting the direction of our important Hotels and Resorts function, ahead of a permanent appointment to the role. I would like to thank Karl Schattmaier for the huge contribution he has made in his time at Thomas Cook and I’m very happy that he will continue his role in the Supervisory Board of Thomas Cook GmbH.”
