Athens metro, tram and electric railway go on strike on Wednesday

The employees at the electric railway, tram and metro have announced a 24-hour strike for Wednesday, in order to protest the privatization of TRAINOSE and the rolling stock maintenance company (EESSTY).

According to their statement, the “catastrophic sale of infrastructure continues” after the port of Piraeus, regional airports and Elliniko. The unions argued that urban transportation is the next and claim that under private management ticket prices will go up and security will falter.

As part of their strike on Wednesday, the employees are planning to demonstrate at 8pm outside the offices of the state privatization fund TAIPED in the city center of Athens.
