A meeting to discuss the problems that have emerged in the introduction of electronic tickets in Athens’ transport system was organized at the ministry of transport on Tuesday, with the participation of all the relevant bodies and the project contractor.
According to reports, the meeting examined proposals to end the delays customers are currently facing in the issuance of personalized cards. It was also decided that the project contractor will continue to supply the Athens Public Transport Organization (OASA) with paper tickets for 11 more weeks to avoid any shortage, until OASA holds a new tender for new ones.
OASA is expected to finish the connection of the 650 POS machines it has received with banks by the end of October. The same applies to card and ticket terminals at the station’s ticket offices as well as to the portable card controllers used by the controllers.
It is also expected that TRAINOSE and OASA will soon pen a deal to allow the use of the electronic ticket to the suburban railway.
