Athens-Lamia highway reopens after truck accident and snowfall

The Athens-Lamia highway was restored to traffic again in the late afternoon at the 126th km, after the Tragana tolls, after an accident involving two long trucks that had trapped a tourist bus between them.

The bottleneck created by the accident from the 117th to the 131st km however will take a while to be resolved, Nea Odos representative Gerassimos Monokroussos noted , as the traffic is heavy due to the holiday season.

Monokroussos also said that the company has activated 60 snow-plowing machines and is on call for all hardships resulting from winter weather.

The first full-blown winter storm of the season left much of mountainous central and southern Greece covered in snow on Friday, with showers and drizzle forecast elsewhere across the country.

Plentiful snow bodes well for the country ski resorts and pistes, if roads are cleared in time to allow travelers to reach the facilities.

Even the mountain peaks around the greater Athens area are expected to be snow-covered for Christmas Day on Monday
